Zenit St. Petersburg midfielder Leandro Paredes has this evening dropped a hint over a potential move to Premier League giants Chelsea.
24-year-old Argentinian international Paredes has been plying his trade in Russia since the summer of 2017, when Zenit agreed to splash out an initial fee of 23 million Euro to secure his signature from Serie A outfit AS Roma.
And, after impressing in Italy, the all-action midfielder has since gone on to develop his game further at the Saint Petersburg Stadium.
Last season, between the Russian Premier League and Europa League, Paredes racked up an impressive 5 goals and 8 assists, with his 14 yellow cards also proof of the fact that the South American is not afraid to put himself about when required.
To this point in the current campaign, meanwhile, Paredes has started in 15 of Zenit’s 17 league outings, playing a crucial role in his side’s emergence as table-toppers.
As such, unsurprisingly, the Boca Juniors youth product’s showings over the last 18 months have not gone unnoticed across Europe.
Both Juventus and Real Madrid were hotly-tipped as potential destinations for Paredes last summer.
However, the outfit rumoured to be expressing the most serious interest in the Argentine’s signature at present are Chelsea.
The Blues are known to be on the lookout for reinforcements in the middle of the park, following Cesc Fabregas’ departure for Monaco.
And, despite rumours earlier this week that the capital giants were closing on a move for Cagliari standout Nicolo Barella, mounting reports over the last 48 hours suggest that Chelsea are not ready to stop their midfield recruitment drive with one addition.
As such, a deal for Paredes has also been touted as close to completion.
And the 24-year-old himself has done little to play down rumours of an imminent switch to Stamford Bridge this evening, by taking to his official Twitter account to Retweet a clip, welcoming him to Chelsea:
